| The Departments of Mathematics and Physics at the University of California, Davis invite applications for four full-time faculty positions to launch a new research initiative: The Physics and Mathematics of the Universe. Applications will be considered for appointment at the level of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor; appointments will be made either in the Mathematics or Physics Department, or jointly between the two departments, to be determined on a case-by-case basis. | |

| This is an opportunity to build an extraordinary program, and we will exercise flexibility regarding the exact specialties of the faculty we recruit in order to achieve an exciting outcome. We encourage applications from candidates with expertise in areas of theoretical physics and mathematics that aim to increase our understanding of the fundamental physical laws and their underlying mathematical structure. | The faculty members of the group include Steve Carlip, Hsin-Chia Cheng, Markus Luty, and John Terning. The research of the group spans the range from theoretical investigations of quantum field theory and quantum gravity, to model-building and particle phenomenology, and cosmology. We also have strong overlaps with the groups in Fields/Strings/Gravity and Cosmology, which include Andreas Albrecht, Veronika Hubeny, Nemanja Kaloper, Mukund Rangamani, and Jaroslav Trnka. |

| Applicants must have a Ph.D. in physics or mathematics and the ability to teach effectively at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Demonstrated success in an active research program in physics or mathematics is essential. | The position is open until filled. The initial appointment will be for two years, and may be extended to a third year contingent on performance and continued external funding. |
