I am interested in the extensions of the standard model of particle physics that address some of its outstanding puzzles. In particular, I have spent some time thinking about the gauge hierarchy problem and the nature of dark matter. Research Interests
My research interest lies in understanding particle physics not explained by the Standard Model (SM). I use both phenomenological and formal approaches. On the phenomenological side, I have been focused on two directions. One is studying how to use effective field theories (EFTs) more efficiently, especially the SM EFT. Professor Andrew Waldron's research is devoted to a broad range of problems in theoretical and mathematical physics. In particular he has made an important contribution to the conjectured Banks-Fishler-Shenker-Susskind (BFSS) matrix model of string theory and M-theory. The thrust of Professor Schwarz's work in mathematical physics has been to apply topology to physics. In this aim he anticipated some of the work of the physicist Edward Witten. His most important result, joint with Belavin, Polyakov, and Tyupkin, was the discovery of instantons, which are solutions to classical gauge field equations that are localized in four Euclidean dimensions.
