Description | High Energy Seminar Speaker: Kyungeun Lim Title: Rare Event Searches with CUORE and DM-Ice Experiments Host: Emilija Pantic Room: 432 Abstract: Experimental investigations of dark matter and neutrinos are powerful tools to expand our knowledge of the origin and structure of the universe and understand the nature of the matter. The search for neutrinoless double-beta decay is a unique method to investigate the nature of neutrino mass, probe if neutrinos are their own antiparticles, and test lepton number conservation. Direct detection of Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs) would confirm the existence as well as the particle nature of dark matter. The searches for WIMP dark matter and rare nuclear decays share many experimental techniques and challenges, and experiments rely on event-by-event identification in ultra-low background environments. In this talk, I will present the results and ongoing efforts in the CUORE and DM-Ice experiments to search for neutrinoless double-beta decay and WIMP direct detection. I will also discuss the prospects of CUPID and COSINE, the extensions of CUORE and DM-Ice, respectively. |
