Description | Joint Theory Seminar Speaker: Yuhsin Tsai Title: Direct Detection with Dark Mediators Host: Ennio Salvioni Room: 432 Abstract: In this talk I will discuss a topological modification of the dark matter/nucleus scattering for direct detection experiments. Instead of having a standard 2 to 2 scattering with contact operators, we look at a tree level 2 to 3 process, X N -> X N phi, with phi being a SM singlet carrying the same dark charge which stabilizes the DM. The interesting phenomenology from the setup motivates the study of the dark mediator Dark matter (dmDM). By focusing on a simple model that gives a sizable scattering cross section, we discuss the direct-detection consequences of this scenario and find that a heavy O(100 GeV) dmDM candidate fakes different O(10 GeV) standard WIMPs at different experiments. Various collider and astrophysical constraints will be addressed. A large portion of the allowed dmDM parameter space are detectable in future experiments, and the model have interesting applications in reconciling different types of DM experiments. |
