Joe Shuster (1914-1992)
- created Superman with American Jerome Siegel
- spent early years in Toronto (the model for Metropolis)
- father Julius was an immigrant from Rotterdam, and had a tailor shop in
the garment district
- moved to Cleveland at age 10
- was a newspaper boy for the Toronto Star
- when the Superman comic strip first appear Clark Kent worked for the Daily Star, this was later changed to the Daily Planet when the strip received wider distribution through syndication
- Shuster and Siegel sold their rights for a pittance to DC Comics in 1940
- in the 1978 Superman movie starring Christopher Reeves, Canadian Glenn Ford played Clark Kent's father, and Canadian Margot Kidder
played Lois Lane
- in the 1970's Shuster and Siegel started receiving a pension from DC Comics
- cousin of comedian Frank Shuster
