Luc Plamondon (1942- )
- composer
- born in 1942 in Quebec
- raised on a family farm
- educated in Montreal, Paris, Cambridge, and Berlin, studied teaching and journalism
- in the mid-1960's he began writing songs that combined the energy of rock with the romantic expression of French Quebec
- wrote a series of highly successful albums for Quebec singer Diane Dufresne, and later composed material for leading European artists such as Johnny Hallyday, Francoise Hardy, and Petula Clark
- in 1978, he collaborated with French composer Michel Berger to create the rock opera Starmania, which has had several long-running productions in Canada, France, Moscow, and Germany
- in 1992,14 songs from Starmania were recorded with English lyrics by Tim Rice, under the title Tycoon; it included performances by Celine Dion, Cyndi Lauper, Kim Carnes, Tom Jones, Ronnie Spector, and Nina Hagen
- Plamondon holds an honorary Doctor of Letters from the Université Laval
- honored in France with the Prime Minister's Prize
- in 1993, he received Canada's Felix Award for his staging of a one-woman show by the actress and singer Louise Forestier
