We show that many techniques from the study of conformal blocks can be generalized to compute the propagator, including the semiclassical monodromy method and both forms of the Zamolodchikov recursion relations. When the results from recursion are expanded at large central charge, they match gravitational perturbation theory for a free scalar field coupled to gravity in our chosen gauge. We find that although the propagator is finite and well-defined at long distances, itsperturbative expansion exhibits UV/IR mixing effects. If we nevertheless interpret the propagator as a probe of bulk locality, then when G_N m_φ << 1 locality breaks down at the new short-distance scale (G_N R^3)^1/4. For a very large bulk mass, or at small central charge, bulk locality fails at the AdS length scale. In all cases, locality ‘breakdown’ manifests as singularities or branch cuts at spacelike separation arising from non-perturbative quantum gravitational effects.</p>

Title: ATLAS High Granularity Timing Detector and Sensor R&D
Host: Chertok
Room: 285
Abstract: The HL – LHC upgrade will allow an order of magnitude increase in data collected at the LHC for studying physics at the Energy Frontier. This will require data taking with 200 interactions per crossing, which will be very challenging. Besides changes in electronics and triggering to deal with the high luminosity, ATLAS is planning a new type of silicon detector to measure the time of passage of particles to high accuracy to help sort particles from the different interactions. I will describe the new detector, called the High Granularity Timing Detector, and the sensor technology that is being developed to accurately measure particle hit times.

Title: The Galaxy halo bispectrum and primordial non-Gaussianities
Host:Markus Luty
Room: 432
Abstract: Primordial non-Gaussian density perturbations can give rise to very unusual behavior for the power spectrum and bispectrum of biased objects like galaxies. For example, the galactic power spectrum could go as 1/q^3 as small wave-vectors q. I discuss this effect within the context of quasi-single field inflation making some estimates for how small the wave-vector q has to be for this behavior to dominate over the usual approximately Harrison-Zeldovich form for the power spectrum.

Title: The Search for Neutrinoless Double Beta Decay with 136Xe: EXO-200 Results and a Look to the Future with nEXO
Host: Svoboda
Room: 285
Abstract:
Large ultra-low background liquid xenon (LXe) detectors have recently emerged as a promising technology that can push the neutrinoless double beta decay search to unprecedented sensitivity. The study of neutrinoless double beta decay will shed light on the properties of neutrino mass and whether or not the neutrino is its own antiparticle. A discovery would mean that lepton number is violated and leads the way to physics beyond the Standard Model. The Enriched Xenon Observatory (EXO) program is aimed at searching for this decay in 136Xe with a liquid xenon time projection chamber. This talk will discuss new results from the present experiment EXO-200 and prospects for a next-generation experiment called nEXO that will be capable of probing Majorana neutrino mass in the inverted mass hierarchy region.
