Title: Expanding the landscape of N=2 Super-conformal field theories
Host: John Terning
Room: 432
Abstract: In this talk I will argue that a systematic classification of 4d N=2 conformal field theories is possible through a careful analysis of the geometry of their Coulomb branches. I will carefully describe this general framework and then carry out the classification explicitly in the rank-1, that is one complex dimensional Coulomb branch, case. We find that the landscape of rank-1 theories is still largely unexplored and make a strong case for the existence of many new rank-1 SCFTs, almost doubling the number of theories already known in the literature. The existence of 4 of them has been recently confirmed using alternative methods and others have an enlarged N=3, supersymmetry.
Most importantly the Coulomb branch analysis suggests the existence of a new N=4 SU(2) theory, with a different lattice of Wilson-'t Hooft line operators, which is self-dual under S-duality. I will spend the last part of my talk outlining the evidences supporting such an exciting possibility.

Title: Dark Photons from the Center of the Earth
Host: Ennio Salvioni
Room: 432
Abstract: We propose a search for dark matter annihilation into light mediators in the center of celestial bodies like the Earth, focusing on the present and future reach of IceCube and space-based telescopes. The effect of low-velocity enhancements to dark matter capture and unique kinematic features offer an opportunity for a smoking-gun signal. I also present prospects for an analogous search for light mediators from the center of the sun which may be detected by AMS-02, extending earlier work by modeling the effect of the solar wind.

Title: Detecting Ultralight Bosonic Dark Matter via Absorption in Superconductors
Host: Xiaochuan Lu
Room: 432
Abstract: Recently, the use of low-threshold superconducting targets has been proposed for detecting dark matter in the halo. I will discuss using these targets for detecting ultralight bosonic dark matter via an absorption process. The proposed detection method is sensitive to relic hidden photon, axion, and scalar dark matter with mass in the meV to eV range, where the reach can exceed the current astrophysical and terrestrial limits with moderate exposure.

Title: Planck, BICEP, and the Early Universe
Host: Kaloper
Room: 285
Abstract: The cosmic microwave background contains a wealth of information about cosmology as well as high energy physics. It tells us about the composition and geometry of the universe, the properties of neutrinos, dark matter, and even the conditions in our universe long before the cosmic microwave background was emitted. After a brief introduction, I will discuss various aspects of the recently released Planck full mission data before turning to a discussion of string inspired models and the search for their signatures. Finally, I will turn to the search for primordial B-modes.

Title: "Recent Highlights from CMS on Searches from the 13 TeV Run at the LHC"
Host: Robin
Room: 432
Abstract:
In June 2015 the LHC has restarted the run2 at an new CM energy of 13 TeV. CMS and ATLAS have collected each about 3 fb-1 of data, which, while being less than the that collected in run1, has already has a better sensitivity for searches for phenomena at high masses. In this presentation we will show the recent results on these searches, and will check in particular a number of 2-3 sigma deviations that were reported with the run-1 data. We will also discuss in particular the status of the 750 GeV enhancement in the di-photon mass spectrum, first reported in December 2015, and its updates as released for the spring 2016 conferences.
