Title: Unification and New Signals at the LHC
Host: Ennio Salvioni
Room: 432
Abstract: The fact that the standard model gauge couplings approximately unify at high energies has motivated work on many models involving larger gauge groups. Assuming that unification occurs perturbatively, there is a restricted set of new fields that can be added without disrupting this behavior. In this talk, I will use this set of possibilities to motivate interesting signals of new physics one can hope to observe at the LHC.

Title: SaxiGUTs and their Predictions
Host: Xiaochuan Lu
Room: 432
Abstract: We will present a general study of the class of supersymmetric grand unified theories- SaxiGUTs- where the unified and PQ symmetries are broken simultaneously. There has been little interest in SaxiGUTs since the discovery of the axion misalignment mechanism in 1983 that puts the PQ scale far below the GUT scale to avoid overclosure. However, for TeV-scale SUSY, the decay of the saxion condensates will inevitably dilute the axion energy density, invalidating this overclosure constraint. We will demonstrate that SaxiGUTs can lead to a variety of experimental predictions, including SUSY at the TeV scale, low reheat temperature, high axion decay constant, dark radiation, and proton decay.

Title: Folded Supersymmetry with a Twist
Host: Xiaochuan Lu
Room: 432
Abstract: Folded supersymmetry (f-SUSY) stabilizes the weak scale against radiative corrections from the top sector via scalar partners whose gauge quantum numbers differ from their Standard Model counterparts. This non-trivial pairing of states can be realized in extra-dimensional theories with appropriate supersymmetry-breaking boundary conditions. I'll present a class of calculable f-SUSY models that are parametrized by a non-trivial twist in 5D boundary conditions and can accommodate the observed Higgs mass and couplings. Although the distinctive phenomenology associated with the novel folded states should provide strong evidence for this mechanism, the most stringent constraints are currently placed by conventional supersymmetry searches. These models remain minimally fine-tuned in light of LHC8 data and provide a range of both standard and exotic signatures accessible at LHC13
