Title: Fermion hierarchy from sfermion anarchy
Host: Ennio Salvioni
Room: 432
Abstract: The lack of new physics signals at the LHC could lead us to look beyond the hierarchy problem and to consider other problems facing the standard model within frameworks in which the weak scale is tuned to some extent. In my talk I will discuss a high scale (PeV or above) supersymmetric model where the flavor structure of the first and second generation fermion masses and mixings is radiatively generated via sfermion loops with an anarchical flavor structure, which motivates the choice of the high scale. I will discuss in detail how the correct hierarchies are achieved and I will discuss possible future signals of this framework.

Title: New Limits on Light Hidden Sectors from Fixed-Target Experiments
Host: Ennio Salvioni
Room: 432
Abstract: New physics can be light if it is hidden, coupling very weakly to the Standard Model. In this work we investigate the discovery prospects of Abelian hidden sectors in lower-energy fixed-target and high-precision experiments. We focus on a minimal supersymmetric realization consisting of an Abelian vector multiplet, coupled to hypercharge by kinetic mixing, and a pair of chiral Higgs multiplets. This simple theory can give rise to a broad range of experimental signals, including both commonly-studied patterns of hidden vector decay as well as new and distinctive hidden sector cascades. We find limits from the production of hidden states other than the vector itself. In particular, we show that if the hidden Abelian symmetry is higgsed, and the corresponding hidden Higgs boson has visible decays, it severely restricts the ability of the hidden sector to explain the anomalous muon magnetic moment.

Title: Systematically Searching for New Physics at the LHC: Dark Matter, Topological Models and Deep Learning
Host: John Conway
Room: 432
Abstract: I will review our search for dark matter at the LHC in several different modes, and argue for a new strategy for organizing our experimental searches. Finally, I will demonstrate the power of recent deep learning techniques to boost our power to find new exotic particles.

Title: High and low energy probes of light Z' bosons
Host: Jack Gunion
Room: 432
Abstract: The Standard Model (SM)-like Higgs boson discovered by the LHC represents a completely new tool to probe physics beyond the SM. In this talk, we show the potential to reveal the presence of new neutral gauge bosons through the exotic Higgs decay into four leptons. In particular, we will focus on models with Z' bosons, coupling with the SM sector only through kinetic mixing and on models in which the Z' is the boson associated to the L_mu - L_tau gauge symmetry. We will show the complementarity of Higgs measurements, LEP electroweak measurements, flavor measurements and neutrino trident production measurements in probing the presence of light Z's.
