Gordie Howe (1928- )
- hockey player and prolific scorer, nicknamed "Mr. Hockey"
- born Gordon Howe on March 31, 1928 in Floral, Saskatchewan
- had a remarkably long career that spanned five decades (1946-1980)
- in 1977 became the first player to score 1000 career major-league goals
- played right wing for:
- the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League (NHL) from (1946-1971)
- the Houston Aeros of the World Hockey Association (WHA) (1973-1977)
- the New England Whalers of the WHA (1977)
- the Hartford Whalers of the NHL (1978-1980)
- won six NHL scoring titles (1951-1954, 1957, 1963)
- won the Hart Trophy as the most valuable player six times (1952, 1953, 1957, 1958, 1960, 1963)
- retired in 1980, at the age of 52, as the NHL leader in career goals scored with 801
- Howe is second only to Wayne Gretzky on the NHL list for total points scored (goals and assists combined), with 1850
- on Oct. 3, 1997, at age 69, he played briefly for a minor league team to extend his professional playing record into six decades
